Fieldstones

Sadly there is very little information as to the identities of the numerous fieldstone graves. They are believed to be the graves of locals that had no means to purchase proper headstones, as well as enslaved peoples.

There are 20 inscribed or cut headstones and around 130 uncut fieldstones in this cemetery.

Somewhere in this cemetery are believed to be the remains of Captain Steadman and two young patriots killed by “Bloody Bill” Cunningham in the fall of 1780.
